an Agricultural Stewardship Association event
October 1 – 6:30- 8:00 pm on Zoom
October 4 – 12:00- 3:00 pm at Hepatica Farm
Do you own land and wonder what type of agricultural production it is best suited for? Or are you a new farmer looking for land and seeking tools to help you assess potential farm properties?
Join ASA and Connor Stedman for this two-part land assessment workshop and field trip with a focus on diversified agricultural production. An evening zoom session on October 1 will include an overview of farm viability and land assessment considerations for farm properties in the greater Hudson Valley region, including the use of publicly available GIS data to evaluate properties. On Sunday, October 4th we will meet at the conserved Hepatica Farm in Greenwich to practice on-the-ground property assessment tools and answer questions in the field.
Participants will leave with an understanding of how site characteristics such as slopes, soils, waterways, infrastructure, access, and field layout can affect a property’s viability for a diversity of farm enterprises.
